DTKI: a new formalized PKI with no trusted parties
نویسندگان
چکیده
The security of public key validation protocols for web-based applications has recently attracted attention because of weaknesses in the certificate authority model, and consequent attacks. Recent proposals using public logs have succeeded in making certificate management more transparent and verifiable. However, those proposals involve a fixed set of authorities. This means an oligopoly is created. Another problem with current log-based system is their heavy reliance on trusted parties that monitor the logs. We propose a distributed transparent key infrastructure (DTKI), which greatly reduces the oligopoly of service providers and removes the reliance on trusted parties. In addition, this paper formalises the public log data structure and provides a formal analysis of the security that DTKI guarantees.

متن کاملsayI: Trusted User Authentication at Internet Scale
With Internet-scale user authentication, an organization authenticates users with which it has no prior association. Of necessity, the organization must rely on third parties, which make up the authentication infrastructure and can vouch for these users. These third parties are trusted. And since different organizations have different adversaries and different security needs, it is up to the or...
متن کاملAn Axiomatic Basis for Reasoning about Trust in PKIs
Trust is essential to a communication channel. The trust relationships, which play an important role in Public Key Infrastructures (PKIs), need to be formalized for providing a reliable modelling methodology to support secure digital communications. In this paper, we present a typed modal logic used for specifying and reasoning about trust in PKIs. In order to study trust relationships within P...
متن کاملPoW-Based Distributed Cryptography with No Trusted Setup
Motivated by the recent success of Bitcoin we study the question of constructing distributed cryptographic protocols in a fully peer-to-peer scenario under the assumption that the adversary has limited computing power and there is no trusted setup (like PKI, or an unpredictable beacon). We propose a formal model for this scenario and then we construct a broadcast protocol in it. This protocol i...
متن کاملFair Exchange with Guardian Angels
In this paper we propose a new probabilistic Fair Exchange Protocol which requires no central Trusted Third Party. Instead, it relies on a virtually distributed and decentralized Trusted Third Party which is formalized as a Guardian Angel: a kind of Observer e.g. a tamper proof security device. We thus introduce a network model with Pirates and Guardian Angels which is well suited for Ad Hoc ne...
